Our Gorongosa is a Certified B Corp!

We’re excited to announce that Our Gorongosa is now a Certified B Corporation! As an impact-driven organization, we’re thrilled to join more than 4,000 companies across the globe using business as a force for good. B Lab: Redefining the Role of Business

B Lab is a non-profit organization dedicated to harnessing the power of business to solve the world’s biggest social and environmental challenges. Over several years, it has created standards, policies, and tools that empower organizations to make meaningful and lasting change for people, communities, and the planet. In its quest to create an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economic system, B Lab has built a community of business leaders that are, together, creating meaningful and lasting change for people and the planet. To date, the B Lab community includes over 4,000 B Corps in 70 countries and 150 industries!

What is a B Corporation?

B Corporations are defined as: “Businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.” To become a B Corp, an organization must score at least 80/100 on the B Impact Assessment – a rigorous certification process (only 1 in 3 businesses become certified!) that grades a company’s overall impact across five areas: governance, workers, environment, customers, and community. Transparency is key, and successful organizations’ impact scores are available to the public on the B Corp Directory. In terms of legal accountability, all B Corporations must amend their governing documents to ensure its shareholders are legally accountable for the organization’s benefit commitments.

Striving for B Corp certification was a no-brainer for Our Gorongosa. Our mission – to create a world where people, wildlife, and the planet thrive together – is rooted in making a meaningful and lasting impact for stakeholders around the globe. From the outset, we have prioritized impact over our bottom line, dedicating 100% of our profits to human development and conservation initiatives in Gorongosa National Park. 

Our CEO Matt Jordan says: “We are thrilled to be officially certified B Corp, and to join the incredible B Corp community filled with inspiring companies like Patagonia and TenTree. We don’t just give a small percentage of our profits to supporting initiatives in Gorongosa National Park, we give 100% of them. We don’t just create a work environment where our team feels empowered, we support our team in thriving. We aren’t simply supporting farmers to make a living wage, we’re creating a framework for their continued growth and success, by offering sustainable education and above market value for their green beans.”
