Only 11% of girls in Mozambique go to secondary school. This stat is most apparent in areas like Gorongosa, where access to education is limited and young women have child care and household duties that prevent them from attending school.
Gorongosa’s Girls Clubs aim to bridge the gap. These after-school programs encourage girls to stay in school, delay pregnancy, and bring an end to child marriages. Over time, girls gain the confidence to make their own decisions and be agents of change in their communities.
